For a long time now I have been frustrated with the state of vehicle maintenance apps on iOS. Every few months I would go searching for one that I could actually use to log oil changes and service visits for our family vehicles, and I would always walk away disappointed. Cluttered interfaces. Aggressive paywalls around features that should be free. Apps that looked, frankly, like they had not been touched since iOS 9.
What I wanted was simple.
I wanted a truly native iOS app — one that respected the platform, embraced the new Liquid Glass design, and took advantage of the integrations that make iOS feel like iOS. Widgets on the home screen. Siri shortcuts for when my hands are covered in grease. App Intents that plug into the rest of the system. Nothing exotic. Just an app that felt like it actually belonged on my phone and that was kept up to date with the latest and greatest features.
I never found it. So I built it.
GreaseNote is the app I wanted to use. It is a clean, native iOS app for tracking the service history and maintenance of your vehicles. You can log visits, keep an eye on mileage, and use widgets and App Intents to check on your vehicles without ever opening the app. It is designed for the way iPhones and iPads actually look and feel today, not five years ago.
After a long stretch of late nights and weekends, GreaseNote is finally available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.
What is exciting to me about building on Apple’s platforms is how much they keep giving you to work with. This is a 1.0, but it is not the end of the road. As the platform grows, GreaseNote will grow with it.
